Pune – Helmets will be made compulsory in Pune from January 1. Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham has issued order for its strict implementation. The Commissioner of Police has decided to implement the court order from the beginning of the new year. Due to increasing accidents in the city, the Commissioner of Police has decided to implement the court order which has made wearing helmet mandatory while riding a two-wheeler.

Importantly, in the past several times helmets were made compulsory in Pune. However, due to the opposition of the citizens, its implementation could not be successful. However, once again the new Commissioner of Police has taken this decision. So compulsory helmet is likely to happen once again in the city of Pune.

Earlier there has been several attempts to make helmet compulsory but people opposed. Specifically, some political parties also supported them. The demands were made to improve public transport, improve traffic planning and road conditions before enforcing helmet rule.
