HEMRL MARCHING TOWARDS LATEST QMS ISO 9001-2015
High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune, a premier laboratory of DRDO dealing with development of wide spectrum of high energy materials, has adopted internationally accredited Quality Management System (QMS) ISO-9001 during August 1999. Earlier, the lab had geared up its Quality Management System (QMS) to meet the revised versions of ISO standards during 2000 and 2008 and successfully met all the quality standards while carrying out its advanced research and development activities. The lab, with its quality research programmes, has excelled in the area of high energy materials research and presently certified for ISO 9001:2008 which is valid up to October 2017.
HEMRL has initiated the process of moving towards latest revision of ISO 9001: 2015, which is explicitly oriented towards complex processes / research involving many challenges /risks. As a first step, to make senior officers & management officials, familiar with new QMS, Dr (Mrs.) SD Kakade, Management Representative (MR), has organised a one day awareness training programme on 05 Jan 2017.
Shri KPS Murthy, OS & Director HEMRL inaugurated the programme and released a booklet on “Guidelines for ISO 9001: 2015”. In his inaugural speech, he has brought out that the awareness programme is being conducted for the first time in DRDO and the standard has a high level structure to align with other management systems. The standard includes systematic approach for considering risks/ challenges and excludes the preventive actions of older versions. Hence, the new standard explicitly caters for the R &D processes of DRDO and other R&D organisations. The programme is conducted by Shri PN Sapre, M/s BVS Quality Systems, Pune. MR has informed that a series of such awareness training programme will be arranged for middle management and other officials subsequently. This will help HEMRL to upgrade its QMS to ISO 9001-2015 by Oct 2017 and enhance its quality standards.
