Pimpri, 20th January 2023: The issue of the lack of teachers in the 14 Urdu medium schools of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the fact that the education of the students is being hampered was raised in the High Court on Thursday through a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). The condition of the Urdu school in Jadhavwadi is dire.

The petitioner also told the court that the school from Kindergarten to Class seven is held in one classroom, and only two teachers are working in the entire school.

The court also took cognizance of this petition and ordered the municipal corporation to submit the details of teachers and non-teaching staff. Aqil Mujawar, a social activist from Pimpri Chinchwad, has filed this petition through lawyer Hanif Sheikh. The petition came up for hearing on Thursday before Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Gangapurwala and Justice Sandeep Marne. The petitioners told the court that the Urdu school at Jadhavwadi in the Bhosari area has about 300 children from Kindergarten to Class seven in a single class. A building is ready for an Urdu school at Kudalwadi, some distance from this school.

However, Sheikh told the court that the school was not shifted to the new building due to local opposition. The court has also asked the Municipal Corporation to file a reply in this regard. More than five thousand children are studying in 14 Urdu schools of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and in comparison, the number of teachers is very less. The petitioners also told the court that while 88 teachers are required in the school, 46 posts are vacant.

Meanwhile, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation runs 110 primary and 24 secondary schools in Marathi, Hindi and Urdu medium. The Municipal Corporation claimed that there was no discrimination on religious grounds. After that, the Municipal Corporation was ordered to provide the details of teachers and non-teaching staff in all Urdu medium schools within the Municipal Corporation limits.
