Pune, 7th April 2026: As many as 672 families at Yashwin Hinjawadi CHS in Hinjawadi Phase II were left without electricity for more than 20 hours, triggering anger among residents who alleged apathy and poor response from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).

According to residents, the power outage began on Monday afternoon and continued well into Tuesday, severely disrupting daily life in the residential complex located in one of Pune’s major IT hubs.

The prolonged blackout has affected work-from-home professionals, forced the society to rely on diesel generators at high cost, and disrupted basic household activities. Residents said inverters in many flats were exhausted after several hours of continuous outage.

“This is not the first time we are facing such an issue. Power cuts in this area are frequent, and despite repeated complaints, there is no proper response from the electricity distribution company,” said a resident of the society.

Residents said the situation was particularly frustrating because neighbouring societies, schools, and commercial establishments continued to receive electricity supply while only their housing complex remained without power.

Several residents claimed they made repeated attempts to contact officials and register complaints but received little assistance.
A resident said he contacted the Hinjawadi Phase II substation on Monday evening, but the official reportedly said he was unaware of the outage despite the complaint being raised earlier. The resident later registered another complaint through the MSEDCL WhatsApp service.

Subsequently, the resident contacted the MSEDCL Distribution System Subdivision (DSS) office in Baramati, where officials shared a Pune office contact number. Residents said they were then directed to call the toll-free helpline, but alleged that calls went unanswered.

“The substation official also shared the number of the Assistant Engineer of Hinjawadi Phase II, but the calls were not answered,” a resident said.
Frustrated residents criticised the response from the authorities, alleging a lack of accountability.

“Officials simply tell us to call the toll-free number and register a complaint. It feels like no one is taking responsibility for resolving the issue,” residents said.

Residents have urged MSEDCL officials to restore electricity supply immediately and address the recurring power disruption in the area, warning that such prolonged outages are unacceptable in a rapidly developing IT hub like Hinjawadi.
