Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Pune Metro Set for Phased Opening by April 2026
Pune, 20th February 2026: The 23-km Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority has successfully completed trial runs in both directions, bringing the project closer to its public launch.
With nearly 90 percent of civil work finished, officials have applied to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety for approval to commence commercial operations. Authorities are optimistic that the metro line will open in phases by the end of April 2026, subject to final clearances.
The corridor is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Hinjawadi, a major IT hub that experiences heavy daily traffic. Once operational, the metro will provide faster, safer, and more convenient travel for thousands of IT professionals and regular commuters.
Officials added that instead of opening all stations simultaneously, only those that are fully completed will be operational in the first phase.
The project is being viewed as a major step toward improving urban mobility in Pune and reducing travel time between Hinjawadi and central city areas such as Shivajinagar.
