Hockey: Income Tax east through, PCMC Academy en-cash Stephen hat-trick

Pune, 14th December 2025: Income Tax, Pune, PCMC Academy and Excellency Hockey Academy made most of the day and carve facile wins over their opponents in the Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hockey Tournament, at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri, here on Sunday.

The knock-out tournament is being conducted under the aegis of Hockey Maharashtra and is part of the 134th birth anniversary celebrations of the famed leader.

In the opening match of the day, PCMC Academy made the most of their home ground and scored a 5-0 win over Khadki Hockey Academy.

The star of the day for PCMC Academy was Stephen Swamy who netted a hat-trick of goals (24’, 29’, 36’). The first goal by Stephen’s was a field goal (24’), later Stephen added two more goals (29’ and 36’) to complete his tally.

Earlier, Jay Kale (3’) opened the PCMC Academy score-line off a field goal. Thereafter a three goal feat by Stephen helped Stephen take the score-line to 4-0, while Sahil Bhosale (34’) completed the final score at 5-0.

In the second match, Income Tax, Pune had five scorers’ net seven goals in their easy first round victory over Poona Hockey Academy.

A brace by Romesh Pillay (2’ and 38’) and Nikhil Bhosale (28’ and 51’) made up the huge score-line. A goal each by Raj Pawan (5’), Atharva Kamble (37’) and Ashutosh Lingesh (50’) completed the 7-0 rout of Poona Hockey Academy.

In the last match of the day, Excellency Hockey Academy won a cliffhanger against Friends Union Club 4-3. The win was aided by a three-goal effort by Aditya Rasal (1’, 5’, 29’), while the lone forth goal of the team was netted by Aryan (18’).

The losers Friends Union Club reduced the margin through a brace by Shakti Thakur (31’, 37’) and a single goal conversion by Sanket Kire (46’). The winners led 2-0 at the half-way stage.
