Pune, 19th December 2024: Pune, known as the “Oxford of the East,” is home to many people, including youths who migrate here for jobs and education. This influx has led to various changes in Pune’s atmosphere. Once known for its rich traditions, the city is slowly transitioning into a more westernized style, with pub culture growing. With recent actions taken against pubs, which have impacted the ‘culture,’ Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar has clarified his stance, stating, “I’m not against the pub culture but against the rule breakers.”

The Police Arogya Mitra Foundation and Subhash Nagar Madi Wale Colony Mandal organized an event called “Coffee with CP,” where Pune City CP Amitesh Kumar had a conversation with Dilip Takale and Vinayak Dharane. The event was attended by Manisha Dharane and Vinayak Dharane from the Arogya Mitra Foundation.

While speaking at the event, CP Amitesh Kumar said, “The number of people coming from other parts of the country is increasing in Pune, and many facilities are being created in the city. Pubs are one of them. It has been criticized that pubs hurt the culture, and misdeeds occur. Pubs will not harm the identity of Punekars at all because the original Punekars are far removed from such things. There is no opposition to pubs. However, the police are against the misdeeds occurring in the name of pubs.

“The noise in the pubs that continues until dawn is a nuisance to the public. After the Kalyani Nagar accident case, rules were set for pub operators. Pub operators, especially those who use loudspeakers and laser beams in musical programs or public places, need to follow the rules. Punekars should be aware of the loudspeakers used during the festival period and oppose them,” said CP Amitesh Kumar.
