Patna, 14 January 2021: Lockdown due to coronavirus across the country has led to a decline in university enrollment. Universities had released several cutoffs list to fill the seats. The Indira Gandhi National Open University has the highest enrollment in Patna during the lockdown. IGNOU conducts the enrollment twice a year, one in January and the other in July. In January 2020, 22,841 students enrolled in different courses at IGNOU.

The university received 41,175 nominations during the lockdown in July. It was the first time in the ten years that the university has received this many nominations in July. This is a big record for IGNOU. Last year university received 35773 nominations in the July session, and combining both the session’s total, 51817 enrollments were registered. This year the university has received 64016 nominations.

In 2010, IGNOU had 19815 nominations covering both seasons. The number of nominations increased to more than 44 thousand in ten years. There has been no session in the last ten years in which enrollment has not increased. Simultaneously, one to three thousand registrations had increased every year. This year enrollment has increased from ten to fourteen thousand. This is a historic moment, says IGNOU director Abhilash Nayak. He further stated that where enrolment has decreased across the country, Students’ confidence in IGNOU has increased. The increase in enrollment during lockdown is encouraging.
