Pune, 6th June 2026: The Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune (IIIT Pune), an Institute of National Importance established by the Government of India under the Ministry of Education, successfully organised its First Alumni Meet – Pune Chapter at its campus in Nanoli Tarf Chakan, Talegaon, Maval, on Saturday.

The event brought together alumni from the B.Tech and M.Tech batches of 2020 to 2025, providing an opportunity to reconnect with their alma mater, revisit memories from their student days, and witness the institute’s rapid growth and development since its establishment in 2016.

As part of the alumni meet, the institute organised a tree plantation drive on campus to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. Alumni participated enthusiastically in the initiative, reinforcing their commitment to social and environmental responsibility.

During interactive sessions, alumni expressed pride and appreciation for the transformation of the institute in a relatively short span of time. Many highlighted the significant progress achieved under the leadership of Director Dr. Vineet Kansal and commended the institute’s expanding academic and research footprint.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kansal outlined several key achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening IIIT Pune’s position as a leading technology institution.

He said the institute has secured major research and development projects worth several crores from the Government of India. Faculty members and students are actively engaged in cutting-edge research areas, including semiconductors under the National Semiconductor Mission and cybersecurity.

Dr. Kansal also highlighted a notable increase in high-quality research publications in reputed international journals and a rise in the number of patents filed by faculty members, reflecting the institute’s growing focus on innovation and intellectual property creation.

The Director informed alumni that IIIT Pune has established a dedicated International Relations Office to foster collaborations with leading universities across the globe. Discussions are currently underway for student and faculty exchange programmes, as well as dual-degree and joint-degree initiatives.

On the placements front, the institute continues to maintain a strong placement record. According to the Director, several reputed multinational corporations have recruited from the campus and have expressed confidence in the quality, skills, and industry readiness of IIIT Pune students.

The institute is also undertaking significant infrastructure expansion, including the development of new hostels, sports facilities, and other modern amenities designed to enhance campus life and support holistic student development.

The alumni meet concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing keen interest in contributing to the institute’s future growth and strengthening the alumni network. The event was marked by nostalgic interactions, networking opportunities, and discussions on future collaborations.

Organisers said the first alumni meet marks the beginning of a stronger and more engaged alumni community that will play a vital role in supporting IIIT Pune’s academic, research, and institutional aspirations in the years ahead.

Established in 2016, IIIT Pune is one of the 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology set up by the Government of India and operates as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education.
