IMD Forecasts Thunder and Lightning Activity in Pune City, Limited Rainfall Expected

Pune, 24th April 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts thunder and lightning activity in Pune city on Wednesday, with no significant rainfall anticipated. The bulletin reports a cyclonic circulation hovering over south Marathwada and adjacent west Vidarbha in the lower tropospheric levels. Additionally, a trough extends from south Chhattisgarh to south Kerala across Vidarbha, accompanied by a cyclonic circulation over south Marathwada, adjoining west Vidarbha, and interior Karnataka in the lower tropospheric levels.

In light of these weather patterns, isolated light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 30-50kmph, is expected over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on April 24 (Wednesday), as per the bulletin. Consequently, a yellow warning has been issued for these regions until Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai forecasts isolated rainfall in south Konkan and Goa, as well as north and south Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and east and west Vidarbha until Saturday. The forecast also indicates a gradual increase in maximum temperature by 3-4° over interior Maharashtra in the next five days. Additionally, a rise in minimum temperature by 2-3° is anticipated in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada starting Wednesday.
