Pune, 12th March 2026: Pune city experienced a sharp rise in temperature today, with the mercury touching 38°C in Shivajinagar, while neighbouring Lohgaon sizzled at 40°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a local forecast today indicating that while the intense heat will persist for the next 48 hours, the city might see a slight reprieve with partly cloudy skies toward the evenings starting this weekend.

The maximum temperatures across the Pune district showed a consistent upward trend on Thursday. According to realized temperature data, Dudulgaon recorded the highest temperature in the district at 38.7°C, followed closely by Purandar at 38.4°C and Shivajinagar at 38.1°C. Other key areas such as Chinchwad, Lavale, and Magarpatta all hovered around the 37.5°C to 38°C range, while the lowest maximum in the district was recorded in Shirur at 33.8°C.

The IMD’s seven-day outlook for Pune and its neighbourhood suggests that maximum temperatures will remain between 35°C and 37°C through March 18. While the skies will remain mainly clear for the next two days, a change in weather pattern is expected from March 14, with clouds likely to develop during the afternoons or evenings. Minimum temperatures are expected to stay relatively stable between 18°C and 20°C.

Heatwave in Vidarbha
While Pune residents felt the summer heat, the Vidarbha region faced more extreme conditions. Akola recorded the highest temperature in the state at 41°C, prompting the IMD to classify the situation as a “Heat Wave.” Amravati also hit the 40°C mark today.

In a contrasting weather development, the IMD has predicted that while Pune remains dry, several districts in Vidarbha—including Nagpur, Wardha, and Bhandara—are likely to experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by strong gusty winds starting from March 14.
