New Delhi, 26th May 2026: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has introduced a new recruitment pathway for candidates seeking entry into its Technical Branch in the Officers Cadre, allowing applicants to qualify through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores.

Under the newly launched system, candidates with valid GATE scores can directly qualify for shortlisting to the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview stage without appearing for the preliminary written examination conducted through the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT).

The IAF clarified that the GATE-based entry route will be applicable only for recruitment to the Technical Branch. AFCAT will continue to remain the standard entry examination for all branches of the Air Force, including technical posts.

According to the IAF, the educational qualifications required under the GATE entry scheme will remain the same as those prescribed for Technical Branch recruitment through AFCAT.

Details regarding the accepted GATE disciplines and eligibility criteria have been included in the AFCAT Notification 02/2026, available on the official websites of the Indian Air Force accessible at www.afcat.edcil.co.in and www.careeriaf.gov.in

The Air Force has also allowed eligible candidates the option to apply for Technical Branch recruitment through both AFCAT and the GATE-based entry scheme.

Candidates interested in officer-level recruitment in the IAF have been advised to follow official communication channels and social media platforms managed by DISHA Indian Air Force for further updates regarding recruitment and selection procedures.
