Indian Railways Averts Derailment Attempt on Gujarat Mail Route, Train Halted in Time

Dehradun, 19th September 2024: Indian Railways averted a serious incident on Wednesday when a potential derailment attempt was discovered on the Gujarat Mail route between Bilaspur Road and Rudrapur City in Uttarakhand.
Officials reported that the loco pilot of train number 12091 noticed a 6-meter-long iron pole obstructing the track at km 43/10-11. The pilot promptly halted the train before reaching the obstruction, cleared the pole from the tracks, and safely resumed the journey.
This incident follows a similar event earlier this month in Ajmer district, Rajasthan, where an attempt to derail a goods train was foiled. Miscreants had placed two cement blocks on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor tracks. Although the train hit the blocks, no significant damage or injuries were reported.
In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, there was another derailment attempt involving the Bhiwani-Prayagraj Kalindi Express. Miscreants placed an LPG cylinder, a bottle of petrol, and matchboxes on the tracks. The train collided with the cylinder but managed to stop safely. Additionally, 4-5 grams of explosive powder were found on the tracks. Investigations by police and central agencies are ongoing.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has stated that the Railways are actively investigating these derailment attempts, which involved placing hazardous objects like boulders and rods on the tracks.
