Indian Railways Renames Ahmednagar Station as Ahilyanagar

Pune, 16th September 2025: Indian Railways has officially renamed Ahmednagar Railway Station of Pune Division, Central Railway, as Ahilyanagar, in tribute to Lokmata Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar.

The renaming follows the decision of the Government of Maharashtra to change the name of Ahmednagar district to Ahilyanagar. In line with this, the station previously known as Ahmednagar will now be recognized as Ahilyanagar.

As per the Government of Maharashtra’s notification and the Surveyor General of India’s letter, the station name will be read and written in the following manner:

In Devanagari Script (Marathi): अहिल्यानगर

In Devanagari Script (Hindi): अहिल्यानगर

In Roman Script (English): AHILYANAGAR

Indian Railways clarified that there will be no change in the station code. Ahilyanagar will continue with the existing code ANG.
