Pune, 13th August 2022: The Yerawada prison started their ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Independence Day celebrations with a program organised by The Satsang Foundation, Pune Chapter.

The program was a culmination of 12 weeks of yoga training that started in May 2022. The BYVK yoga trainers imparted to the inmates of the Yerawada prison. During their weekly visits, the inmates were also educated on the life of Sri Aurobindo and the time spent in Alipore jail during the Independence struggle and the enlightenment he achieved during his stay there.

This served as an inspiration for the inmates to awaken their spiritual awareness.

This initiative is the initiative of PM Modi on the eve of Sri Aurobindo’s 150th birth anniversary and the Satsang Foundation has carried this message forward through yoga.

The program was inaugurated by the Superintendent of the jail Shri Shiv Shankar Patil.

Following the program, participation certificates were handed over to all the participants. Inmates who performed exceptionally well over the 12 weeks were given trainer certificates along with training manuals for future use.

A short film on spirituality and nationalism by SRI M was also aired along with an encouraging message for the inmates on this occasion.
