Pune, December 10, 2020: The campaign against power theft in rural and urban areas should be intensified to ensure adequate power supply to all consumers, said Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Pune Regional Director Ankush Nale in a review meeting.

Nale took a review of various works in Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Solapur districts through a video conference on Tuesday. Chief Engineers Sachin Talwar (Pune), Sunil Pavade (Baramati) and Prabhakar Nirmale (Kolhapur) were the chief guests.

MSEDCL is currently in financial crisis due to non-payment of electricity bills. Therefore, consumers should be contacted directly and requested to pay their electricity bills, Nale said. He also directed the intensification of the campaign against power theft to further reduce distribution and commercial losses in each department. Immediate inspection of all power connections should be started on the power lines which are more prone to damage. Legal action should be taken against those involved in having unauthorized connections. He also said that the police department should also cooperate with the unit of MSEDCL where necessary.

As rabi season is important for agriculture in Western Maharashtra, agricultural pumps should be supplied with electricity at the proper pressure. For this, the campaign to stop unauthorized power connections should be completed by December 31 by surveying the Transformers concerned with agricultural pumps. If it is necessary to increase the capacity of Transformers, the proposal should also be submitted immediately.

He directed the engineers and staff to inform the farmers about the installation of capacitors in agricultural pumps. In case agricultural pumps are not working well they should be repaired or replacement should be done immediately. If the power supply is continuously interrupted due to faulty transformers or other technical reasons, action will be taken against the responsible officials, added Nale.

In this review meeting, General Manager (Finance and Accounts) Alok Gangurde, all the Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers of the Regional Division, as well as senior officers, were present.
