‘Institutions like IITs have students in each committee, their opinions, suggestions are heard and are taken into considerations. Similarly, all universities should involve students, said the former member of the University Grants Commission and former director of IIT Kanpur, Dr. Sanjay Dhande.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor NS Umrani, Registrar Dr. Praful Pawar, Director of Examination and Evaluation Board Dr. Mahesh Kakade, Chairman of Examination Reform Committee Rajesh Pandey, Member Dr. Sanjay Chakane, Dr. Sudhakar Jadhav, Mahesh Abale were present on the occasion.

Dr. NS Umrani said, how to ask questions in the exam is a science. We have fallen short in creating a love of exams. With this new education policy, we can fill this gap.

“In addition to taking exams, student assessment is a really important issue that needs to be considered and seriously discussed. It is hoped that this discussion will lead to a better evaluation system”, said Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, Vice-Chancellor, SPPU.

Framework 1

Exam reform through dialogue

On behalf of Savitribai Phule Pune University’s Examination Reform Committee, a ‘dialogue yatra’ will be organized in the next three months by visiting the principals of 900 colleges. Rajesh Pandey, chairman of the examination reform committee, said a report would be submitted on the issues raised through the discussion.

Framework 2

key points from the discussion

-The teachers who teach should also evaluate the students.
– Public universities should produce thousands of experts with questioning skills.

– Just as education is a continuous process, evaluation should also be continuous.

– Instead of taking exams for millions of students at the same time, there should be exams of the same difficulty in stages.

– There should be decentralization of educational institutions.

– Examinations and assessment experiments like Open Book Exam, Adaptive Exam, Take-Home Exam should be conducted in education.
