Dharmshala, 17th May 2023: Delhi Capitals (DC), whose hopes of play-offs in this year’s IPL season ended, defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday at HPCA Cricket Stadium in the 64th match of the season. Punjab Kings, who needed to win their remaining two matches to reach the playoffs, suffered a 15-run defeat.

Now their journey to reach the final four has become tougher. They will have to depend on the results of other teams. Delhi Capitals went for their fifth win. Punjab Kings suffered their seventh defeat.

A challenge of 214 runs was set against Punjab from Delhi. Delhi gave a big blow to Punjab in the second over, Ishant Sharma dismissed Shikhar Dhawan for a wicket.

This season’s centurion Prabhasimran Singh could not shine. He was dismissed for 22 off the bowling of Axar Patel. Atharva Taide and Liam Livingstone battled for victory. But at 55 runs, Atharva retired hurt.

After that, Jitesh Sharma (0) and Shahrukh Khan (6) also failed to perform. Liam Livingstone scored 94 off 48 balls to seal the win. He hit five fours and nine sixes in this innings. He was fighting alone. Punjab could reach 198 for eight wickets in 20 overs.

Meanwhile, earlier Punjab won the toss and decided to field first. Prithvi Shaw was given a chance for this match in the Delhi team. The opening pair of captain David Warner and Prithvi Shaw shared a partnership of 94 runs.

Prithvi and Rilee Rossouw put on a partnership of 54 runs. Both these batsmen maintained the flow of runs. It was Sam Karan who broke the pair by eliminating Prithvi. Prithvi scored 54 runs in 38 balls with seven fours and one six.

Rilee Rossouw celebrated his first half-century in IPL in this match. Rossouw and Phil Salt put on an unbeaten 65-run partnership. Delhi could score 213 for two in 20 overs. Rossouw scored an unbeaten 82 off 37 balls with six fours and six sixes.
