IPS Officers to be Appointed in ST Corporation for Enhanced Security: MoS for Transport Madhuri Misal

Pune, 1st March 2025: In the wake of the recent Swargate ST station incident, which has raised serious concerns about women’s safety, the Maharashtra State Transport (ST) Corporation has decided to appoint IPS-level officers to oversee security. Additionally, a security guard committee will be established within the corporation to strengthen vigilance, announced Minister of State for Transport Madhuri Misal after a high-level meeting held on Saturday.
The meeting was convened to review security measures at Swargate depot, following the atrocities against women reported at the station. Senior officials, including DCP (Traffic) Amol Zende, ACP (Traffic) Ashwini Rakh, Regional Manager Anagha Bartakke, Divisional Controller Pramod Nehul, and representatives from the ST Corporation, police, and RTO departments, were present.
Key Decisions Taken:
Appointment of IPS Officers: The ST Corporation will have IPS-level security officers for better law enforcement.
Increase in Security Staff: More security personnel will be deployed at bus depots.
Enhanced Surveillance: The number of CCTV cameras at Swargate station will be increased.
Police Patrols: Regular police patrols will be intensified to prevent crimes.
Strict Action on Negligence: Officials or contractors found guilty in the audit of this case will face strict action.
Grievance Redressal System:A grievance redressal room will be set up at the ST bus stand.
A statewide toll-free number will be introduced for passenger complaints.
Control on Private Buses: Measures will be implemented to prevent private bus drivers from unauthorized entry into ST depots.
Additionally, Minister Misal announced that as per the Central Government’s scrap policy, old and unfit buses across all depots in Maharashtra will be scrapped by April 15, 2025.
