ITMS System Likely To Be Functional On Pune-Mumbai Expressway From October

Pune 11th August 2023: The Intelligence Traffic Management System (ITMS) project on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway is in the final stage and it is likely to be functional from October this year. The project is being carried out by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRDC) and the officials are planning to make it functional from October 15.

Considering the increasing number of accidents on the expressway the project aims to enhance the traffic management and safety on this route thereby reducing the number of accidents by using advanced technologies and intelligent cameras. The officials also claim that this will be the first of its kind project in the state.

Around 430 cameras equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities to detect the violation by vehicles will be installed at 106 locations on the expressway under this project. The cameras can detect around 17 types of traffic violations, said officials. A total of Rs 60 Crore is being spent on the project under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. A Command and Control Center (CCC) has also been set up at Kusgaon to manage the ITMS system and it will remain active round the clock with involvement from officials of the Highway Police and Regional Transport Officials (RTO).
