Pimpri, 18th August 2023: Pimpri-Chinchwad, reliant on the Pavana Dam for its water needs, has found itself facing a curious situation. Although the dam boasts a year’s worth of water storage, the municipal administration has restricted the daily water supply to just one day, asserting that the allocation is being distributed with ample pressure.

In response to mounting grievances from residents about low-pressure water supply due to leakage, theft, irregularity, and insufficiency, the municipal administration introduced water supply measures from November 25, 2019, aimed at achieving equitable distribution.

Remarkably, the Pavana Dam currently holds a substantial water storage capacity of 96 percent. Consequently, citizens had anticipated uninterrupted daily water supply. However, the administration has opted to limit the provision to a single day, contending that an equitable and substantial distribution is being realized.

Yet, technical hindrances, including power supply disruptions, pump malfunctions, and water pipe ruptures, have intermittently compromised water supply. Consequently, questions emerged about where citizens could voice their complaints. To address this, the administration has assigned responsibility to specific officials and introduced helpline numbers for registering grievances. Individuals can lodge complaints through the Sarathi Helpline at 8888006666 and the Water Supply Complaint Cell, which operates 24 hours a day, at 7722060999.

The water supply schedule, along with contact information for Deputy Engineers and Junior Engineers categorized by zonal offices, is accessible on the municipal website pcmcindia.gov.in. Residents are encouraged to initially contact these officials for water-related issues. If a resolution is not attained, escalation to the Executive Engineers of the respective divisions is advised. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation extends an invitation to contact the Additional Commissioner if deemed necessary.

To streamline operations, specific allocations of responsibility have been made. Executive Engineer Ramnath Takle is accountable for Zones A, C, E, F, and certain portions of other divisions, while Executive Engineer Ajay Suryavanshi takes charge of Zones B, D, C, A, and select areas of other divisions. Each zone office is supported by a Deputy Engineer, complemented by Junior Engineers as necessitated by the extension of the respective zone office.
