Pune, 19th February 2024: As part of workload management, it’s time for a break for ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah. He will now be allowed to skip the next Test in Ranchi. His participation in the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala will be a decision for later and could depend on the outcome of the fourth Test, starting on February 23.

The Indian team will fly out of Rajkot on February 20th, and Bumrah is unlikely to travel with the side; instead, he’s likely to move to Ahmedabad on Monday itself. There is no information on any other player skipping the next Test.

The decision to rest Bumrah is part of workload management by the Indian team. Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker of the series, claiming 17 wickets at an average of 13.64, and has already bowled over 80 overs in the series so far.

Mohammed Siraj was similarly rested as part of workload management for the second Test in Visakhapatnam. There is no information regarding a replacement player for Bumrah; however, Mukesh Kumar, who was released from the third Test so that he could take part in the Ranji game for his state Bengal, will rejoin the squad in Ranchi.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is awaiting the fitness update of KL Rahul; he was to join the squad in Rajkot by Saturday but has not yet arrived. It is still not clear whether he has regained full fitness. Before the third Test, the BCCI had informed that Rahul was 90 per cent fit.
