Jasprit Bumrah To Lead India As Rohit Sharma Out For Test Match Against England Due To Covid-19

Mumbai, 29th June 2022: Rohit Sharma has tested Covid positive again ahead of the rescheduled Test match in Birmingham, due to which he has been ruled out of the last Test against England. The rescheduled Test match between India and England will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 1. India’s full-time captain Rohit Sharma was found to be Covid-19 positive.
According to some media reports, a BCCI source has clearly stated that Rohit Sharma might not be able to recover from Covid before the fifth test match, due to which he will not be able to be a part of the playing XI. Mayank Agarwal has been called by the Indian team management as a backup to Rohit Sharma and Mayank will open the innings along with Shubman Gill in the rescheduled Test.
Rohit Sharma was to captain the Indian team in the rescheduled Test match against England but got infected during the warm-up match in Leicestershire. According to the report, Jasprit Bumrah will be the captain of the team for the final Test match against England. Bumrah will become the first fast bowler after the great Kapil Dev to lead India in the longest format of the game.
The last match of the five-match Test series between India and England in 2021 was postponed due to Covid protocols but now it is scheduled to be played on July 1. Team India is currently leading 2-1 in the series. Rohit Sharma was the leading run-scorer for India in the postponed Test series against England. He scored a total of 368 runs with 1 century and 2 half-centuries.
After taking over as India’s full-time Test captain earlier this year, Rohit had defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in the home Test series ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League. Rohit was to lead India in an overseas Test for the first time but has been infected with covid-19 and may not be able to recover till the match is played.
