Viman Nagar, 26th May 2025: In a troubling incident raising concerns over in-flight security, a woman’s jewellery and cash were allegedly stolen from her handbag during a flight from Delhi to Pune, police said on Sunday.

The case has been registered at the Pune Airport Police Station and is currently under investigation.
According to officials, the complainant, a Delhi-based woman, discovered the theft after landing in Pune in the early hours of May 22. She reported that five grams of gold ornaments and ₹13,500 in cash were missing from her handbag, which had been kept in the overhead luggage compartment during the flight.

Upon noticing the loss, she immediately approached the airport police and lodged a complaint. The investigation is being led by Senior Police Inspector Ajay Sankeeshwari.

This marks the second such incident in recent weeks. A similar theft involving valuables stolen from a passenger’s luggage was reported around a fortnight ago, raising alarm over the safety of personal belongings during air travel.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of a coordinated effort. Investigators are examining CCTV footage, flight records, and passenger manifests to identify potential suspects.

Authorities are urging passengers to remain vigilant and keep their valuables within reach throughout the journey. The incident has also prompted a review of in-flight security protocols in collaboration with airline operators.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
