Rains Bring Relief to Pune: Water Complaints and Tanker Demand Dip by 15%

Pune, 26th May 2025: The recent spell of pre-monsoon showers has brought much-needed relief to Pune, leading to a noticeable decline in water-related complaints and a drop in the demand for water tankers, according to officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Civic officials reported that complaints regarding water shortages have significantly decreased over the past week, coinciding with intermittent rainfall across the city. The demand for water tankers has fallen by nearly 15%, a stark contrast to the peak months of March and April when Pune faced intense heatwave conditions.
During those hotter months, the demand for water surged by nearly 25%, severely straining civic infrastructure. PMC had to scale up tanker services, particularly in suburban areas, where housing societies frequently reported water shortages. Many residents voiced concerns about irregular supply, leading to increased dependence on both municipal and private water tankers.
“With the arrival of rains, temperatures have dropped and some local water sources have started replenishing. As a result, the pressure on tanker services has eased,” said a senior official from PMC’s water supply department.
The official added that tanker requests from housing societies and residential colonies have declined, and water-related complaints have shown a marked dip.
As of now, the overall demand for tankers has reduced by approximately 15%, and civic officials anticipate further improvement if the rainfall continues in the coming days.
