Jharkhand: Jharkhand Issues Bird Flu Alert After Several Cases In Farms

Bokaro, 22nd February 2023: After reports of bird flu cases in a government-run poultry farm in the Bokaro district, officials on Tuesday (February 21), announced that the Jharkhand government is on high alert.

According to officials, a farm in Lohanchal had shown the presence of the H5N1 strain in a protein-rich breed of chicken known as “Kadaknath.”

According to a report from the lab, birds from the Government Poultry Farm in Lohanchal died as a result of bird flu.

A kilometer radius has been designated as the affected zone, and ten kilometers have been designated as the observation zone.

According to a formal announcement made by the Bokaro district administration, the sale of chicken, duck, and other similar animals will be prohibited in these locations.

Arun Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary for health, told PTI that the state was on high alert.

A medical team has been established, according to Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chowdhary, to keep watch on the district’s border areas and sample the chickens and ducks from major poultry farms. Also, a separate ward has been set up at Sadar Hospital for the treatment of anyone ill with bird flu, and the medical team has been requested to collect samples from residents of the contaminated area.

The government has advised people to skip eating chicken and/or duck for a few days.

According to the report, severe upper back discomfort, fever, coughing, shortness of breath, a cold, and blood in the sputum are symptoms of the illness in humans.
