Kannada Sangha celebrates Dussehra festival

Pune, October 18, 2021: For past several years, Pune’s Kannada Sangha has been organizing the Dussehra Festival in the city and this year the Sangha organized the traditional Dussehra and Gombe festival at Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Primary and  Kannada Medium in Erandwane. This year, to honour its former Trustee Late Gunduraj M Shetty, the Sangha renovated the first floor auditorium at Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School and named it Gunduraj M Shetty Memorial Hall.

Members of the Kannada Sangha including President Kushal Hegde, Vice President Indira Salian, Secretary Malati Kalmadi, Treasurer A Shrinivas Alva and Trustees Balajith Shetty,  Shashikala Gurpur and Devika Shetty were present. Late Gunduraj M Shetty’s wife Yashoda Shetty, daughters Nina Rai, Maina Shetty, Naina Shetty, daughter-in-law Nivedita Shetty, grandsons and President of the Pune’s Bunts Sangha Santosh Shetty were present during the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Kushal Hegde said, “The zeal and efforts of Gunduraj M Shetty for the children of Kannadiga workers in Pune to help them get a good quality secondary and higher secondary education were commendable. He had a vision and aimed for the future. Today, while naming this auditorium in his honour, we are making a small effort to preserve his memory forever.

Kushal Hegde also felicitated Yashoda Shetty on behalf of the Kannada Sangha.

Indira Salian also recalled quite a few memories of Late Gunduraj M Shetty.  Malati Kalmadi proposed the Vote of thanks and acknowledged the contribution of all those who have contributed to the Sangha and for the present program as well. The program was moderated by Pooja Patil.
