Khadi and Village Industries generated 10.58 Lakh additional employment opportunities during last two years

New Delhi, July 4, 2019 : In reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprisesinformed that during the last two years, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has generated additional employment opportunities of 10.58 lakh persons under Khadi and Village Industries in the country which is as follows:

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory body created by an act of Parliament.  The social objective of the KVIC is providing employment in rural as well as urban areas of the country.

KVIC functions with the Central Office, Mumbai in association with 46 State/ Divisional/Sub Offices all over the country, 6 Zonal offices at New Delhi (North Zone), Bhopal (Central Zone), Kolkata (East Zone), Guwahati (North East Zone), Bengaluru (South Zone) and Mumbai (West Zone). 7 Departmental Sales Outlets having 23 branches, 18 Departmental Training Centres, 17 Non-Departmental Training Centres and 5 Central Sliver Plants. In addition to this, 34 State and UT Khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs) and over 8058 Retail Sales Outlets are also functioning.

KVIC implements following schemes for making rural people self-reliant in the country including backward areas and rural areas:

1)Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a credit linked subsidy scheme, for setting up of new micro-enterprises and to generate employment opportunities in rural as well as urban areas of the country through KVIC, State Khadi& Village Industries Board (KVIB) and District Industries Centre (DIC).  General category beneficiaries can avail of margin money subsidy of 25% of the project cost in rural areas and 15% in urban areas. For beneficiaries belonging to special categories such as SC/ST/Women/PH/Minorities/Ex-Servicemen/NER, the margin money subsidy is 35% in rural areas and 25% in urban areas. The maximum cost of projects is Rs.25 lakh in the manufacturing sector and Rs.10 lakh in the service sector.
