Pune, 13th May 2022: Two agents were arrested today by Pune city police in connection with the alleged kidney racket at Ruby Hall Clinic.

Deputy Director of Health Services (Pune division) Dr Sanjog Kadam has registered an FIR with Koregaon Park police station about the racket.

The arrested persons have been identified as Abhijit Shashikant Gatne (40) of Erandwane and Ravindra Mahadev Rodge (43) of Bhosari, both from Pune. They were produced before a judicial magistrate court which remanded them to police custody till May 18.

According to police, the arrested had first met the patient at a private hospital in Chinchwad. They took him to a doctor in Ruby Hall Clinic and introduced to the woman from Kolhapur. She was reportedly offered Rs 15 lakh for donating her kidney.

Senior Police Inspector Vinayak Vetal, who is investigating the case, said, “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused had made bogus documents of the woman from Kolhapur to show as the wife of the patient. Ruby Hall Hospital authorities did not verify the documents and sent them to the regional authorisation committee of the Sassoon Hospital to mislead them. Investigation is going on and we will also probe the role of the authorisation committee members.”

He further added, “We will also investigate whether the accused have more accomplices and how they used to get to kidney donors.”
