Kite Flying Turns Fatal: Minor Falls from Sixth Floor in Pune’s Ambegaon Khurd
Katraj, 11th January 2026: A 12-year-old boy died after falling from the sixth floor of an under-construction building while flying kites in the Ambegaon Khurd area on Thursday evening. Police have registered a case against the builders, citing serious lapses in safety measures at the construction site.
The deceased has been identified as Shlok Nitin Bandal (12), a resident of Swara Classic building in Siddhivinayak Society, Ambegaon Khurd. A complaint in this regard was filed by his maternal uncle, Amol Subhash Ingawale (35), at Ambegaon Police Station. Based on the complaint, builders Yogesh Shilimkar and Mahesh Dhut have been booked for negligence.
According to police, construction work is underway at the Snehsparsh housing project in Ambegaon Khurd, adjacent to the society where the Bandal family resides. Shlok, a Class 5 student, had gone to the under-construction building along with two friends around 5 pm after school to fly kites. While on the sixth floor, he reportedly lost his balance and fell through an unprotected duct area.
Shlok sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.
A preliminary inspection of the site revealed multiple safety violations. Police said the staircase of the under-construction building did not have protective railings, and the duct area adjacent to the stairs was left completely open without any barricading or safety net. No watchman had been deployed at the site, and flats were reportedly occupied even as construction work was still ongoing.
Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zine, Inspector Gajanan Chormale, and Assistant Inspector Bhojling Dodmise visited the spot following the incident. Police noted that no basic safety precautions were in place at the site, posing a serious risk, especially to children.
A case has been registered against the builders for negligence leading to death, and further investigation is underway. Assistant Police Inspector Bhojling Dodmise is probing the matter.
