Kolkata Law Student Gangrape Was Pre-Planned, SIT Reveals; Security Guard Among Accused
Kolkata, 30th June 2025: The shocking gangrape of a law student at a prominent South Kolkata law college was a pre-planned crime, according to findings by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.
Of the four arrested, three prime accused — Manojit Mishra, Pratim Mukherjee, and Zaid Ahmed — had conspired in advance to assault the student, police revealed. The fourth accused is a security guard posted at the institution.
Investigators found the trio had a prior record of sexually harassing female students on campus. The SIT also discovered a disturbing pattern: the accused would record their acts on mobile phones and later blackmail victims using the footage.
On the day of the crime, police said, the men forcibly seized the security guard’s phone to prevent him from raising an alarm.
Police sources confirmed that Manojit Mishra — reportedly associated with the Trinamool Congress — is a repeat offender with significant influence. He was even granted bail in April despite being accused of assaulting a police officer. Additional complaints against him include harassment, assault, and extortion.
College insiders described Manojit, nicknamed “Mango,” as someone who habitually filmed women’s private moments without consent, manipulated their images, and shared them on WhatsApp groups for mockery and humiliation.
The SIT has identified 17 students who were present on the afternoon of the incident and will soon question them to gather more evidence.
