KPS Murthy Appointed As Director HEMRL
KPS Murthy, an eminent defence Scientist of national repute has been appointed as Director of HEMRL, one of the prestigious laboratories of DRDO from 1st of August 2015. “I feel honoured to take up this new responsibility and I will continue to strive to take this organization to the next level” said Murthy on his appointment.
Murthy, an acclaimed warhead technologist has made significant contributions in design and development of Missile & Rocket warhead systems, Safety Arming Mechanisms, MBT Munitions and Aircraft delivered Bombs.
His pioneering and innovative research in the development of armament technologies for PRITHVI , AKASH, NAG missiles and PINAKA weapon system has contributed immensely for making our country self-reliant in critical defence technologies. He has steered many vital R&D infrastructure development projects to enhance the technical capabilities.
An alumnus of IIT, Kharagpur, Murthy started his career with DRDO at ARDE, Pune in 1988 and rose to the level of Associate Director. He has published more than 30 papers in various national & international journals, seminars and symposiums. There are 4 patents to his credit. He is a life member of Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), High Energy Material Society of India (HEMSI) & Indian National Society for Aerospace and Related Mechanisms (INSARM). He is leading INSRAM Pune chapter as President and Vice Chairman at the National level.
His outstanding contributions towards defence Science & Technology has earned him numerous awards & honours including DRDO Scientist of the Year, DRDO AGNI Award for Excellence in Self Reliance, Dr Biren Roy Award from Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI),DRDO Award for Path Breaking / Outstanding Technology Development and Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) award.
