Pune, 17th November: The Krida Maharshi Haribhau Sane Pratishthan organised the Kala–Krida and Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar ceremony on Sunday evening at Patrakar Bhavan, Navi Peth, to mark the memorial day of Haribhau Sane. The event honoured distinguished achievers in sports, arts and social contribution.

Welcoming the attendees, President Bal Sane said the awards were established to preserve traditional Indian sports and to introduce younger generations to the legacy of Haribhau Sane.

Chief guests Milind Joshi (President, Sahitya Parishad) and Dr. Satish Desai (President, Punyabhushan Pratishthan) were felicitated along with the award recipients by coordinator Sunil Neverekar.

The awards for 2024 were presented to:
• Sports Award: Arjuna Puraskar recipient and noted kabaddi player Shakuntala Khatawkar
• Arts Award: Renowned violinist Pandit Atul Kumar Upadhye
• Lifetime Achievement Award: Vijay Kumbhar, prominent RTI expert

Following the felicitation, interactive sessions were held with the awardees. Dr. Aarti Datar (Sports), Ashish Keshkar (Arts) and Sanjay Gokhale (Lifetime Achievement) conducted the discussions, which highlighted the journeys of the awardees and offered guidance for aspiring youth. The recipients expressed gratitude, describing the honours as a meaningful recognition from society and a source of renewed inspiration.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Milind Joshi said society progresses when existing pathways are strengthened and reimagined. He described the awards as expressions of gratitude and encouragement, and urged people to devote time to sports and physical activity despite today’s hectic routines.

Presiding over the function, Dr. Satish Desai noted that the ceremony has been successfully conducted for 17 years, continuing to recognise individuals who have made noteworthy contributions in their respective fields.

The event concluded with tributes to Haribhau Sane’s enduring legacy and a reaffirmation of the Pratishthan’s commitment to nurturing future generations in art, sport and social service.
