Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav celebrations cancelled in wake of Covid-19 pandemic

Mumbai, July 1, 2020: The Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav Mandal of Mumbai has decided not to organize Ganeshotsav because of the corona epidemic this time. A blood and plasma donation camp will be set up in its place.

 

The decision was taken by Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav Mandal in wake of the increasing Covid-19 cases, especially in Maharashtra where the tally has hit 1,74,761 yesterday.

 

The board has decided to hold a health camp this year for 11 days. This year’s 87th Ganeshotsav idol installation and immersion ceremony will be celebrated as a health festival from Ganesh Chaturthi to Anant Chaturdashi, the Mandal said.

 

Every year, millions of devotees, including celebrities, visit the famed pandal of Lalbaughcha Raja where a 14-feet-high idol of Lord Ganesha is set up. The festival witnesses donations in crores, including gold and silver ornaments being offered to the ‘King of Lalbaug’.

 

Across Maharashtra, there were 4878 new COVID19 cases yesterday taking the total number of cases to 174,761. Also, 245 people died while 1951 got discharge from hospitals after being cured. There are still 75,979 active cases. Till now 90,911 COVID-19 patients have been cured. The recovery rate in the state is 52.02 %.

 

According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of Coronavirus positive patients has reached 585,493 across the country. Out of this, 347,978 have been cured and discharged from hospitals while 17,400 people have died and one patient has migrated out of the country. There are still 220,114 active patients undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country.
