Landlords in Pune Rural Ordered to Share Tenant Details With Police
Pune, 18th September 2025: Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Jyoti Kadam has issued an order directing landlords in Pune rural district to submit complete details of tenants to their respective local police stations.
According to the directive, landlords must provide documents including the tenant’s full name, current and permanent address, two recent photographs, identity proof, rental agreement, and the name and address of a reference person.
The order comes in the wake of growing security concerns. With several industrial estates operating in rural areas and a large number of houses rented out to workers, officials said the measure is necessary to curb potential criminal and terrorist activities.
“In case of any crime, it is crucial for the police to have prior information about tenants so that cases can be solved quickly,” ADM Kadam clarified, calling the order a precautionary step.
Landlords who fail to comply will face penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
