Leaders Unite Against Religious Polarization, Urge Pune Police for Action

Pune, 6th June 2023: Elected representatives, minority community members, and various social organization leaders in Pune came together yesterday to address the rising religious polarization caused by certain right wing groups. They met with the Commissioner of Police and submitted a letter, urging him to prevent any actions that contribute to an anti-minority atmosphere in the city, particularly related to issues like love jihad.

The delegation emphasized that Pune has always upheld the values of inclusiveness and secularism, maintaining harmony even amidst nationwide incidents. They appealed to the citizens not to fall victim to programs or rumors that aim to create religious tension. It was also stressed that the wider interests of the country should be considered, urging everyone not to defame Muslims or any other religion.

Prominent individuals who attended the meeting with Pune Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr and Joint Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik included former MLA Mohan Joshi, former corporator Rashid Sheikh, National Conference for Minority President Rahul Dambale, and several other community leaders and activists from various political parties and organizations.

Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumaarr assured the delegation that any activities that disrupt law and order in the city will not be tolerated. He emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against those who attempt to disturb peace.
