IMD Predicts Delayed Monsoon Arrival in Pune, Expected After June 15
Pune, 6th June 2023: Pune residents may have to wait a little longer for the arrival of the much-anticipated monsoon season this year. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a report indicating that the onset of monsoon in Maharashtra is likely to be delayed until after June 15. The delay is attributed to disturbances over the Arabian Sea, which are expected to develop into a cyclone, thus affecting the weather patterns in the region.
The IMD report, published on Monday, highlights the presence of a cyclone circulation in the Southeast Arabian Sea, extending up to the middle tropospheric levels. The system is projected to gradually move northwards, eventually forming a depression in the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea within the next 48 hours.
According to the IMD’s predictions, the monsoon is expected to make its way to Maharashtra around June 14-15, with the entire state likely to be covered by June 16-22. However, the exact date of the monsoon’s arrival remains uncertain due to the slower pace of the Bay of Bengal branch of the monsoon. Consequently, the monsoon is anticipated to be delayed, and it is unlikely to reach Maharashtra before June 15.
