Legends on Court: Pune Hosts BMPWA’s Inaugural Badminton Tournament for Veterans

Pune, 4th January 2024: The much-anticipated Badminton Masters Players Welfare Association’s (BMPWA) inaugural veteran badminton tournament has officially commenced in Pune, scheduled to run from January 4th to January 7th, 2024.

Players from different states have already started arriving in the city, with some engaging in pre-tournament practice sessions at the LSBI Badminton Arena, Vadgaonsheri, the chosen venue for the event.

This historic tournament, catering to players aged 35 to 80 (both men and women), promises to be an exciting affair with a cash prize, the use of feather shuttles, and participants receiving T-shirts. Additionally, all players will enjoy complimentary breakfast, lunch, and snacks during the course of the tournament.

Badminton masters tournament

Organized in memory of Late Pradeep Kundaji, Founder Member & Architect of the Association, the tournament will take place at the LSBI Badminton Arena, Pune. With 10 age categories ranging from 35+ to 80+, the event will feature 5 events per age group, including Men Singles, Women Singles, Men Doubles, Women Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, totaling 50 events.

Anticipation is high, with expected entries surpassing 1000 participants from across the country in the coming days. A significant number of these participants hold National and International accolades, adding prestige to the tournament.

S P Singh, Founder Member from Chandigarh, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This badminton tournament marks the beginning of a new era in badminton sports in the country. Our endeavor is to take care of veteran champions, come what may, and give a new direction to the sport in the country as it is a new beginning.”

Raj Singh, a veteran badminton player from Pune, shared plans for future endeavors, saying, “We plan to hold four national tournaments throughout the country, and the schedule will be out by the end of January 2024.”
