Lockdown – 15 Migrant Workers Run Over by Train in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, 8 May 2020- 16 migrant workers were run over by a train in Aurangabad city of Maharashtra on Friday morning while they were trying to return to their rural homes in Madhya Pradesh.  The workers were walking from Jalna to Bhusaval, a distance of 170km, to catch a train to return home.

 

The people who had passed the train were all migrant laborers, this accident is at 5.15 am on Friday, in which 15 migrant laborers have died. One person has also been injured in the accident and has been taken to the civil hospital.

 

 

The migrants were sleeping on the tracks when the train hit them around 5.15 am. The driver spotted them and tried to stop but could not, the Railways Ministry said in a statement.

 

The labourers, officials said, all worked at an iron factory in Jalna and were headed back to Madhya Pradesh amid the coronavirus lockdown.

 

PM Modi had said, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and property in the rail accident in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. I have spoken to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and he is closely monitoring the situation. All possible assistance is being provided.”

 

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has expressed grief over the accident by tweeting. He wrote in his post, “Relief work is going on and orders have been ordered to investigate the matter. May God rest in peace.”

 

“I am stunned with the news of migrants being crushed by goods trains. We should be ashamed of the treatment being meted out to our nation builders. I express condolences towards the families of those who have died. Wish a speedy recovery to those who have been injured,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
