Pune, May 16, 2020: There are plans to open more shops in some areas of Pune city, including government and private establishments, and action will be taken on them from next Monday (May 18), Pune Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad indicated today. Also, some areas from containment zones will be excluded while new areas where COVID patients have been found will be added. Till now swab samples of 29000 people have been tested in Pune city and about 3100 have been found positive.

According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), there are 69 micro containment zones in Pune at present. PMC will allow shops to open in some parts of these containment zones. People will get some respite in these areas. The third phase of the lockdown will end on Sunday (17th May) and transactions in some areas have already started.

Punekars are curious about what will be allowed from May 18 in lockdown 4. PMC Commissioner Gaikwad explained the number of patients in different parts of the city, the period of their growth, the rate of COVID19, its effect, and his role in planning for the next few days.

Gaikwad said, “Out of the total patients, the rate of people being cured has increased. There will be some more concessions in areas where the number of patients is not increasing even after starting opening shops. From Monday, government, private offices, as well as shops, can be allowed in those areas. We are reviewing the entire city to complete the work and implement the new policy from Monday (18th).”

PMC Additional Commissioner Rubal Agarwal said that the areas which are outside containment zones at present and where new patients have been detected will be included in the containment zones. After that, strict measures will be taken for the affected areas so that the number of patients in these areas can be reduced.
