Lockdown may be imposed again in these three cities of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray calls emergency meeting

Maharashtra, February 18, 2021: Maharashtra seems to be moving towards lockdown once again amid rising cases of COVID-19. In view of the situation of Covid-19 in the districts of Yavatmal, Amravati, and Akola, the Maharashtra government may announce strict restrictions. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar met on this issue on Thursday morning and action is likely to be taken on the same basis.

Ajit Pawar stated, “The Chief Minister has held a meeting with the administrative officials of Amravati, Yavatmal, and Akola districts and has reviewed the situation there regarding the corona infection. Appropriate decisions will be made soon.” Thackeray has also convened an emergency meeting on the state of affairs, which started at 12:30 pm. This includes Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Health Minister, and senior bureaucrats.

In recent times, Maharashtra is again witnessing an increase in cases of Covid-19. The state received 4,787 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, which is the highest number of cases in a day in 2021. Districts saw the highest number of 230 new cases on Wednesday. There were 82 cases on Tuesday. An official said that 105 new cases were reported in Akola Municipal Corporation on Wednesday and 67 on Tuesday.
“The government could impose strict lockdown in Yavatmal, Amravati, and Akola any time now,” the source said.
