Pune, 11th April 2024: With the implementation of a model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha general elections in the district, enforcement teams are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring compliance. The flying squad, tasked with overseeing the implementation of the code, has made significant seizures in recent days, including around Rs 65 lakhs in cash and a vehicle, in two separate incidents.

Under the stringent Code of Conduct regulations, individuals are prohibited from carrying more than Rs. 50,000 in cash during this period. Teams are conducting thorough inspections of vehicles at various checkpoints across the district to uphold this mandate.

The first incident occurred on April 8th, at midnight, when officers from the Bhosari MIDC police noticed a black Fortuner SUV displaying fancy number plates and behaving suspiciously near C Circle, in the vicinity of Bhosari MIDC Police Station. Upon investigation, authorities discovered Rs. 13 lakh and 90 thousand in Rs. 500 notes concealed within the vehicle. Additionally, the SUV was also seized during the operation.

In a separate incident on April 10th, in the afternoon, personnel from the Shirur police station intercepted a private vehicle near Kaman Bridge within the Shirur Nagar Parishad area. Upon inspection, they uncovered an amount totaling 51 lakh 16 thousand rupees. Promptly alerting the flying squad, authorities further notified the Income Tax Department regarding the discovery.

Ajay More, Election Decision Officer, has confirmed that the confiscated amount has been secured in the treasury, awaiting further action pending an inquiry by the Income Tax Department.
