Pune, August 13, 2020: Lonavala has recorded 157 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The popular hill station in Pune district and its localities have received 2,514 mm of rainfall this year, which is lower than last year. The residents of Lonavala are relieved because of the good rainfall over the last few days.

The tourist spots, waterfalls, and Bhushi dam in Lonavala are overflowing. But there is no tourist footfall this year due to the pandemic. The administration and police have imposed a strict ban on tourist visits at various tourist destinations in Lonavala. Nonetheless, a few tourists have been spotted flouting the rules, despite the restrictions. Lonavala police have taken action against hundreds of such people. Last year,total rainfall was 4,983 mm. In comparison to last year’s rainfall, only half per cent of rainfall is recorded this year.

This year, the rainfall in the area of Pavana Dam is less compared to the previous year. The dam which supplies water to Pimpri-Chinchwad is 56.19 percent full, however by this time last year, it had filled 100 percent. The dam’s catchment area has received 68 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. A total of 912 mm of rainfall has been recorded from June 1 till now in this area. Whereas last year till this date, it had already recorded a total of 3,097 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, the water storage of Pavana Dam has increased by 20.9 per cent since June 1.
