Lt Gen Nardeep Naithani Relinquishes Command Of Armed Forces Medical College Pune

Pune, 31 August 2021: Lt Gen Nardeep Naithani today relinquished command of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune after 39 years of illustrious service.

The Gen Officer is an alumnus of AFMC and was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps on 27 Dec 1982. For his distinguished services the Gen Officer has been awarded the Presidential Award “Param Vishisht Seva Medal” in Jan 2021.

 

He is a physician of repute having completed his Post Graduation in Gen Medicine from the premier institute he commanded. The Gen Officer has vast experience as a professional and academician and spearheaded the management of HIV & AIDS patients in the Armed Forces. He has the distinction of serving as an International Adviser to the 22nd Edition of Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine.

 

As an administrator, the General Officer has commanded Military Hospital, Wellington and Command Hospital (Northern Command) at Udhampur, J & K. During his Command, MH Wellington was adjudged the best zonal hospital. The Gen Officer has also commanded Officers Training College, AMC Centre & College, Lucknow wherein he was instrumental in the formulation of the Doctrine on Tactical Combat Casualty Care. Prior to the present appointment, he served as MG Medical, HQ Central Command guiding the medical care of Army Medical Establishments over seven States.

 

During his tenure as Director & Commandant AFMC, he has ensured infrastructure and capability development and resources for enabling cloud-based distance learning to maintain knowledge leadership in medical education. He ensured training activities continued unhindered in online, hybrid and offline mode during the COVID pandemic.

 

He started competency-based medical education (CBME) program for residents with the framing of entrustable professional activities for each discipline setting standards for skill-based training of PG residents to improve health care outcomes. He has started innovative training methods such as Master class and integrated online teaching for the benefit of AFMS PG training hospitals throughout the country. He has started a number of Medical bulletins for upgradation of knowledge of faculty.

 

The officer has mentored 21 medical institutions in Pune, Mumbai and Armed Forces in setting up COVID-19 testing facilities during the pandemic. Lt Gen Nathani ensured the safety of men and cadets during the pandemic with very low morbidity. He maintained a continuous supply of human knowledge and resources to PM COVID Care hospitals at Delhi, Pune, Patna, Muzaffarpur, Varanasi and Ahmedabad.

 

He has also upgraded research through MoUs with IISER, NCCS and Pune Knowledge Cluster (PKC of Pune University). Empowering a trans-disciplinary collaborative eco-system to achieve meaningful and quality research.
