LT GEN VENUGOPAL MENON TAKES OVER AS COMMANDANT, CME, PUNE
Lieutenant General V Menon, SM, VSM took over as the 43rd Commandant of the College of Military Engineering (CME) on 21 Sep 2015. He was Chief of Staff, Western Command prior to assuming command of CME.
An alumni of Defence Services Staff College where he was awarded the Scudder Medal for standing first on the Course, the General has vast operational, staff and instructional experience. Gen Menon has done the Higher Command Course and is an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College.
Gen Menon has commanded an Engineer Regiment in Op VIJAY where he was awarded VSM for Distinguished Service during operations. He has served in the Military Operations Directorate at the Army Headquarters, where he represented India on numerous occasions at United Nations Headquarters, Geneva on important issues. He has also served as a Chief Engineer of the United Nations Mission in Mozambique. The General has held the coveted appointments of Chief Engineer of a Strike Corps, Deputy Director General Discipline and Vigilance Army Headquarters , Major General In-charge Administration in Headquarters Northern Command and Chief Engineer Central Command. He was awarded the Sena Medal during his tenure in Northern Command. He has also had two instructional tenures at College of Military Engineering.
The General Officer is a post graduate in Structural Engineering from IIT Roorkee and holds M Phil degrees in Defence and Management Studies and Defence and Strategic Studies.
