Maggots in sandwich : Pune railway station food stall vendor fined Rs 30,000

Pune, November 27, 2019:The Pune railway station administration on Tuesday slapped a fine of Rs 30,000 on a food stall vendor, 13 days after receiving complaint from a man who had found maggots in a sandwich purchased from there.

Tushar Sunil Deshmukh of Bhosari had lodged a complaint in this regard on November 13.

The vendor was fined Rs 25,000 by the Pune railway division and Rs 5000 by the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC).

As per the complaint, Tushar had gone to drop a relative at the railway station on November 13. They had bought vegetable sandwich from a stall on platform number 2-3. The sandwich was stale and he found maggots inside the sandwich. He showed the sandwich with maggots to the vendor who had no proper explanation. Tushar made a video of the same and lodged a written complaint with the deputy station manager.

However, the railway administration did not take action till the video went viral after
Railway Pravasi Group posted it on Twitter.

Harsha Shah, president of Railway Pravasi Group, said that the railway administration should keep a check on quality of food being sold at the railway station.

The public relations officer of the Pune rail division, Manoj Jhawar, said that the railways immediately recommended Rs 25,000 fine on the vendor after getting information about the complaint.
