Pune, 23rd April 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the construction of two flyovers from Rajaram Bridge to Funtime Theatre in order to ease traffic congestion on the Pune-Sinhgad road.

To support the metro project, the PMC has also planned to construct 31 pillars in the flyover project. Mahametro, the organization responsible for Pune metro project, has given the green light for the construction of these pillars, and the PMC will be spending Rs 11 crores on the project.

The flyovers will have six boarding and disembarking ramps, with the pillars being integrated into the structure of these ramps. The proposed metro route on the road will require around 106 pillars of Mahametro. The metro station poles will be located on the side of the road, while the route poles will be in the middle of the road. During the construction of the flyovers, the pillars of the metro project will also be built to avoid future disruption.

However, there are metro stations where the two flyovers ascend and descend, and 31 pillars will be integrated into the ramps. The ramps may have to be dismantled if the metro works are initiated in the future. The PMC and Mahametro have already discussed the matter, and Mahametro has agreed to work on the project. There was some confusion about who would bear the expenses since the metro line was still awaiting approval. Nevertheless, the PMC has agreed to cover the cost of construction of the pillars, which will be deducted from the Metro portion of the Municipal Corporation once the project is approved and initiated.

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has stated that the PMC has agreed to bear the cost of constructing the pillars during the flyover project. Once the metro project is approved and initiated, this cost will be deducted from the amount payable by the Municipal Corporation to Mahametro. This move by the PMC is expected to ease traffic congestion on the Pune-Sinhgad road and improve the connectivity in the region.
