Maharashtra: 10 Infants Killed In Fire At ICU Of Bhandara District Hospital

Bhandara, 9th January 2021: Ten newborn babies died after a fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the district hospital in Bhandara. Seven infants were resued by the hospital staff. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has ordered an inquiry.

The incident took place at 1:30 am today. A nurse noticed smoke coming out from neonatal ICU and alerted doctors and other staff who reached there within five minutes. The fire brigade was also called. The staff tried to control the fire with the help of fire extinguishers. Unfortunately, 10 babies died due to choking up as there was too much smoke.

After getting information about this incident, principal secretary of the state and health officers will be reaching Bhandara.
