Maharashtra: 25 Dead After Bus From Nagpur To Pune Catches Fire On Samruddhi Expressway

Buldhana, 1st July 2023: At least 25 people have lost their lives while several others were injured after a bus of Vidarbha Travels carrying passengers from Nagpur to Pune met with an accident and later burst into flames.
The accident took place near Sindhkhedraja in Buldhana district at around 1:30 am on Saturday.
According to police, there were about 33 people travelling in the bus of which 25 have died on the spot due to burn injuries while 8 people including a driver managed to escape. The bus driver who survived the accident claimed that a tyre burst was the main cause of the accident and those who could manage to escape had to break the window glasses to come out. The bus hit the divider and later overturned on the expressway.
Police suspect that the diesel tank of the bus might have exploded since it immediately caught fire soon after it overturned due to which the passengers were charred to death.
Meanwhile the local police are having a major task of identifying the dead bodies as most of them have sustained major burn injuries. “The dead bodies are being sent to the hospital where a DNA test will be performed to confirm the identity of deceased passengers,” said police.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced ex-gratia amount of Rs five lakh each for the deceased passengers.
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said that the state government will bear treatment cost of the injured persons.
