Maharashtra: 2940 new COVID cases in the state today, 1084 patients discharged

Mumbai, May 30, 2020: Today 2940 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra taking the total tally to 65,168. There were 99 COVID-related deaths reported in the state today, while 1084 people were discharged from hospitals after being cured.

Health Minister Rajesh Tope said, “The current count of COVID19 patients in the state of Maharashtra is 65168. Today, newly 2940 patients have been identified as positive. Also newly 1084 patients have been cured today, totally 28081 patients are cured & discharged from the hospitals. Total Active patients are 34881.”

According to the health department, patient doubling time for the state was 11.3 days in the last week, it has now improved to 17.5 days. The same for the country is 17,1 days. Recovery rate in the state is 43.07% while the mortality rate in the state is 3.37%  Currently, 5,51,660 people are in home quarantine. There are 72,681 beds available in quarantine institutions and 35,420 people are in institutional quarantine currently.

Out of the 99 deaths today, 62 were men and 37 women. 48 of them aged over 60 years, 49 were from the age group 40 to 59 years and 2 were aged less than 40 years. 66 out of 99 patients (67%) had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc. Death toll in Covid-19 patients have now gone up to 2197 in the state.
Out of the total deaths reported today, 40 deaths occurred in the last two days and the rest are from period 6th May to 27th May 2020. Out of the 59 deaths in this period, 35 were recorded in Mumbai, 7 in Panvel, 6 in Thane, 6 in Vasai0-Virar, 2 in Navi Mumbai, 1 was recorded in Kalyan-Dombivali, 1 in Jalgaon and 1 of a resident of other states.

Out of 4,33,557 laboratory samples, 65,168 have been tested positive for COVID-19 until today. There are 43 government and 34 private (77 total) laboratories functioning in the state currently. 3349 tests per 10 lakh population are being conducted. At the national level, it is 2523 tests per 10 lakh population. As per the guidance from the Government of India, cluster containment action plan is being implemented in places where clusters of patients have been found in the state. There are 3169 active containment zones in the state currently. Total 17,917 surveillance squads worked today across the state and surveillance of 68.51 lakh population was done.
